Hair Mineral Testing
Why Do We Offer Mineral Testing?
At The Alchemy Room we offer Mineral Testing , because Minerals are essential to your life and to your overall health and well-being.
Without minerals, your body wouldn’t be able to function properly. There are over 29 minerals divided into two classes – major and trace – based on how much of them your body needs of each one. There are five major minerals in the human body, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and magnesium, and some of the trace Minerals are sulphur, iron, chlorine, cobalt, copper, zinc, manganese, molybdenum, selenium and many more.
Why Are Levels & Ratios Important?
Every chemical reaction in your body is based on minerals interactions with other different types of minerals.
So if you’re lacking in a specific mineral, certain chemical reactions will struggle to happen if at all. On the other side, If you have too much of a specific mineral it can also cause a negative effects.
Every mineral does a slightly different roll in the body, form making strong bones, detoxing, balancing your hormones, easing your stress levels, to relaxing tight muscles.
As well as getting your Mineral levels optimised. Which means not too little or not too much of each mineral. It is also important looking at the ratios of minerals to other minerals, as there are many different reactions between different minerals, some support each other, some push each other out. So with the Mineral Test results, we can see the levels and ratios. This chart shows you the interactions with different minerals.
- If an arrow is just pointing in one directions that means that, that minerals feeds the other one.
- If two arrows are meeting in the middle that means that those two minerals balance each other out.
Why Are Heavy Metals Harmful?
There is a growing body of evidence that suggests a link between heavy metals and significant developmental and neurological damage. On our mineral test results, heavy metals are also shown on the results such as mercury, Aluminium etc.
Sadly we are living in a time of high pollution in our environment. Everyone is exposed to pollution to some degree, and these pollutants and heavy metals can possible cause fatigue and add to a chronic illness.
Certain minerals help to clear these heavy metals out of the body, such as selenium helps clear mercury. But the downside is the heavy metals also push the beneficial minerals out of the body, so by seeing the heavy metal levels on the results we can clearly see what needs balancing and why.
Mineral Deficiency And Mineral Excesses
Here are some examples of possible mineral deficiencies and the possible negative effect they can have.
Minerals, such as chromium and zinc, if lower than optimal can affect many functions in your body including your taste, and your blood sugar balance. A disruption of either can lead to more food cravings and constant desire for sweet foods, making losing weight even harder.
Optimising Energy Levels
Your energy production is also dependent on your mineral levels, a less than optimal level of minerals in your body can lead to you feeling tired a lot of the time.
Can be made worse by an imbalance in minerals as many minerals such as magnesium can help you feel calm, yet too much magnesium can make you feel depressed.
There are literally hundreds of different chemicals reactions in your body with mineral interactions and each chemical reaction plays a different role in maintaining an aspect of your body, so their are also hundreds of different issues with mineral deficiency's or mineral excesses.
How Is A Hair Mineral Test Done?
We ask you to fill in a form, name address etc. and then we take a small hair sample from the first inch and a half of growth closest to the scalp or at the nape of the neck.
We then send the form with your hair sample to a specialised lab. Once the sample arrives at the laboratory it is prepared for testing by several specialised procedures and then the sample is placed in multiple test tubes. Special acids are then added that begin the breakdown or “digestion” of the hair. These acids combined with a high-temperature environment will allow the separation of the elements contained within your hair protein. Once your hair is completely “digested” only the mineral salts remain. After being put into solution, the minerals are then analysed by highly sensitive and specialised instruments.
It can take up too 3 weeks before you get your results back, yet normally it is about 2 weeks.
What Will I Get On My Test Results?
With your mineral test results, you will get 4 graphs which are...
⦁ Mineral Levels
⦁ Toxic Ratios
⦁ Trace Minerals Levels
⦁ Heavy Metals Levels
You will also receive a detailed 5 page plus report which will explain in detail what you need to do, to help optimise your mineral levels. The report will include suggested foods which are high in the minerals you need to add in and also show you the foods best avoided. It will also suggested certain mineral supplements for a 3 month course to help rebalance your mineral levels.
This is an example of the first page of a mineral report. On this report you can see the persons sodium and potassium level is slightly low, the magnesium level is to high, the molybdenum level is slightly to low and on the toxic elements the Mercury level is relatively low. So on the report it will show the client how to help balance these minerals.
How much does a mineral test cost?
A hair mineral test costs £74 and it is recommend to retake the test in about 6 months time to see if the suggestions have helped rebalance the mineral levels and if any more balancing is needed.
If you would like a hair mineral test, we will send you the test kit, for you to fill in the form and add a hair sample, which you then send in a pre paid envelope to the lab.
